Each student will receive roundtrip air tickets from Toronto to Shantou, China. Accommodations will be provided by Shantou University Medical School. A small stipend will also be provided to cover meals.

Emerging infectious diseases such H1N1 Influenza A, Avian Influenza and pathogenic bacteria present major problems for the international community. The International Institute of Infection and Immunity, Shantou, China in partnership with scientists from the Department of Immunology, University of Toronto; University Health Network, Toronto, Canada; University of Hong Kong; and Shantou University Medical School will offer a summer training course on pandemic influenza and emerging infectious diseases.
The course is designed to give a theoretical introduction to emerging infectious diseases and practical experience in basic techniques used in infectious disease research.
* In addition students will have the opportunity to carry out a small research project. The faculty includes international scientists in the fields of infectious diseases and immunology. The host institution, University of Shantou Medical School, is situated in Shantou, China, a city of 1.5 million people, located in the Guangdong province in southeast China.
* All infectious diseases agents used in the practical section of the training course will be agents low pathogenic potential.
